Wu Wo- What now?!

This September, The Hutong is opening its rooftop terrace for a 无我茶会 (wu wo cha hui), or “Without Me Tea Ceremony.”  Nearly every country has its own version of WuWoChaHui or the “Without Me Tea Ceremony.”  The concept involves a social tea gathering that promotes selflessness and equality among all participants.  Servers bring a simple tea kit: a thermos of hot water, 4 cups, 1 pot, a towel and sitting mat to the event.  At tea sharing time, each server sits in a circle and makes 4 cups of tea.  Cups are passed to the next 4 people to his or her left, so each person tries 4 different teas. Then, the cups are returned and the process repeated with new participants.

In true Hutong-style, we are adding a twist to this this ceremony by encouraging guests to bring international teas and snacks, and offering freshly baked goods from our kitchen.  Although the typical ceremony is silent, we will allow for a bit of chatting and tea story telling.  All ages welcome.

Please RSVP to info[at]thehutong[dot]com and let us know if you will be serving or sipping! Hot water and extra tea supplies available upon request.

Come to share, or just to sip!  Sharers set up at 4:00pm and Sippers can stop by at 4:30 to enjoy a sampling of Chinese and international teas.

Date: Saturday, September 15th

Cost: 50 RMB

Please note, RSVP is required to attend this event.
