The entire Gubeikou Great Wall has not been repaired in modern times and retains its original composition where broken walls and bullet holes still bear witness to an era of war. You’ll sense the past vicissitudes, and experience an uncrowded, adventurous hike surrounded by nature.

Join us on August 23rd for a hike at Gubeikou, re-discovering the Great Wall with a fresh perspective. There is no better way to explore China’s Great Wall than by hiking or walking. Tread the centuries-old bricks and walk through watchtower ruins.  Take your time and feel the history come to life.

This scenic, family-friendly hike is suitable for hikers above 12-years-old. So pop your trainers on, slap on some sunscreen, and head out for a family adventure!

Itinerary:Please meet at Liangmaqiao station exit B at 8:45 AM for a 9:00 AM departure. We’ll arrive at Gubeikou just after 11:00 AM, and begin our hike on beautiful Gubeikou Great Wall. The hike will wrap up by 2:30 PM, and we’ll have a late, local-style lunch before heading back to Beijing for a 5:00 PM arrival at Liangmaqiao.

Looking for other events in our 5 Senses series?

COVID-19 restrictions have our holiday plans on hold. For those of you who have stayed in Beijing since lockdown in February, do you find yourself seeing the same group of friends every weekend, and have exhausted yourself of brunch options around Sanlitun and Gulou?

This summer, the British Chamber of Commerce in China, in partnership with The Hutong, aims to re-energise your social circle with a new and exciting event series!

Re-discover the city you have been living in, and understand Beijing better with us!  Starting from 26 July, we are taking you through Beijing in 5 different senses – taste, smell, touch, hearing and sight, with a unique one off ‘British’ element added to each activity!

Each weekend at The Hutong (Beixinqiao), we will introduce a new programme in tandem with BritCham suitable for a group of friends, families, and those who are seeking opportunities to meet new people in town!
