Quarantine Cook-Off ,Week 3! 


It’s the third week of  The Hutong Quarantine Cook-Off and this week we’re making the-known ‘Xinjiang Big Plate Chicken’,  Xinjiang Da Pan Ji 新疆大盘鸡. Swap the chicken with assorted mushrooms and or tofu to make it vegetarian. Unleash your inner master chef and get the chance to win some awesome prizes. Recipe here.

So how does it work? 

We are in Week 3 of a 4-week cook-off challenge. The Hutong Kitchen will post weekly Chinese recipes. Competitors will have to cook the recipes at home and share photos via WeChat and Instagram to enter the competition. The winners will be chosen weekly by The Hutong Kitchen’s master chefs. Dishes will be judged based on creativity, plating, photography and Instagram/WeChat likes.

A set of 52 pocket-sized cards, each depicting a classic Chinese vegetable: leafy green, legumes, aromatics, aquatic plants, root, gourds, fungi, edible flowers. The back of the cards spells out how these ingredients are traditionally eaten in China and include tips for home cooks on how to make the most of each vegetable’s unique shape, texture, flavours and nutritional content. What is this week’s dish and how do I get the recipe?  

We’re making Xijiang big plate chicken, Xinjiang da pan ji, 新疆大盘鸡. Swap the chicken with assorted mushrooms and or tofu to make it vegetarian. Please click here for the recipe.

How do I participate? 

  1. Cook the dish from the recipe.
  2. Take a photo of your culinary masterpiece. 
  3. Submit the photo to us by midnight on Sunday, April  12th Beijing time.

How do I know I’ve won? 

Winners will be announced on Wechat and Instagram and contacted on Tuesday, April 14th.

Worldwide participation is encouraged, however, prizes are limited to mainland China addresses only.
