Hand in Hand with Africa Maasai Ethnic Jewellery Workshop with Chariots Handmaydz
Date: Saturday, Sep. 5th
Cost: 260RMB, 220RMB for Members includes all the materials
The beaded handmade jewellery from the Maasai women is a tradition from this tribe, located in Southern Kenya and Tanzania.
The Maasai have been creating beaded jewellery for a very long time. It all started long before the first European contact had occurred. Before, the tribe used natural resources to create their jewellery. Clay, wood, bone, copper and brass are just a few of the materials that were used. When trade with Europeans started in the late 19th century, glass beads were suddenly available, and it is with those that the Maasai decided to continue their tradition of beaded jewels.
Masai jewellery is also popular in Southern Africa, particularly with the Xosa tribe from South Africa and Ndebele tribe from zimbabwe. Masai jewellery has a lot of meaning, the colours as well as the stages of necklaces.
In this session, we get to explore Masai Jewelry from Africa, the beauty in materials used, colours and meanings.
- Design your own Masai Choker Fringe Statement neckpiece using seed beads and glass beads
- Create your own wire bracelet using any colours of your choice.
- Make Masai Loose Earrings complete the set.
Chariots Handmaydz is launched with a mission to change the lives of marginalized women and children so that they can reach their potential. A lot of marginalized women did not get an opportunity to attain formal education, through starting a jewellery company our aim is to assist these women to realize that they can still build a business through making handicrafts. Chariot is a pacesetter for these women. Not only are we setting the pace we aim to bring women together, supporting them to start their own businesses through women empowerment workshops and hosting conferences. We support marginalized children by providing their needs through education. We believe every child has a right to education and to be able to build a future for themselves through learning. Children are the future! #TouchingLivesThroughLove!
To give every woman and child a chance to live a better life despite their race, ethnicity or age.
