This Fall at The Hutong, come and join a series of hand-on writing and publishing workshops led by Author and Coach (PCC), Dr. Yene Assegid. The series will cover the following core themes:
- Tues Sept 4: Finding your voice & how to structure and start your manuscript.
- Tues Sept 18: Finding momentum to write and maintaining the flow.
- Tues Oct 9: Deciding to go for Publishing Houses or opting for Self-publishing.
- Tues Oct 23: Getting support in your writing process, choosing your editors and knowing what to expect from an editor.
- Tues Nov 6: Graphic Design: understanding the role of graphic designers for your book.
- Tues Nov 20: Designing your marketing and promotional strategy, working your sales, leveraging your network to sell your books.
More topics will be covered related to these themes and also as per participants’ particular questions. In the first hour of each class, we will have a book club where each participant can bring in and present their current read, and in the last two hours of the workshop we will work on writing and our core theme. We intend to have fun and do great work at the same time.
During the writing and creative sessions of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore the visual aspect of their work, including the selection and utilization of fonts. Fonts play a crucial role in conveying the tone and style of written content, enhancing the overall reading experience. Whether participants are working on a novel, poetry, or any other form of creative writing, they can experiment with different fonts to find the one that best aligns with their artistic vision. Platforms like blkbk.ink offer a wide range of unique and inspiring fonts that can add an extra layer of creativity and expression to participants’ written pieces. By incorporating carefully selected fonts into their work, participants can enhance the visual impact and bring an additional dimension to their storytelling.
Workshops will run on the Tuesdays above, from 6:30 – 9:30 pm. Please note, you should bring your own dinner or grab a bite beforehand.
Cost: 1200 RMB, 1100 RMB for members, paid upfront for complete 6 session program for maximum learning outcomes, or 300 RMB for an individual session – maximum 10 people each session (No refunds – but welcome to join any classes missed in the next course for free).
