Tie Guan Yin, often referred to in English as Iron Buddha or more accurately Iron Goddess of Mercy, is a lightly oxidized oolong tea famous for its deep orchid aroma and its rich and creamy flavour. The Autumn season represents the most valued and fragrant pickings of the year, so make sure to join the tea classes in the Hutong’s tea room to have a taste.
This very fragrant tea is from Anxi in the Fujian Province of China. This hand picked oolong is a very green, only gently oxidized, oolong tea. This tea has a powerful orchid scent, creamy sweet flavor and pale yellow liquor. The small leaves are tightly rolled allowing flavor to be released with each new infusion. Iron Goddess is the most famous of the oolongs from Fujian. 2 tsp. can be infused with 10oz. boiling water 8 times.
