Chinese Imperial Cuisine includes culinary traditions from most regions in China, particularly from the provinces of Shandong and Jiangsu. Imperial chefs would prepare dishes for the emperors, the whole imperial family, and even the emperor’s concubines. Throughout the centuries Imperial Cuisine strongly influenced Beijing culinary practices.
Chinese Imperial Cuisine is known for its complex and detailed cooking methods. Also important is the selection of raw ingredients, which can be rare to find and expensive to buy. Food styling also plays an important role in the presentation of the dishes.
The Hutong Chinese Communal Imperial Dinner will be more casual than what was served at the palace at the turn of the last century and consists of 10 courses from the Qing dynasty.
