Along this section of the Silk Road trade route, the Imam still calls for Adhan, the Islamic call to prayer, in the oasis provincial capital of Yinchuan. Meanwhile, camel herds make their way across expanses of dry earth and Goji berries are laid out to dry in a sea of red. Across the Helan Mountain range, once nomadic Mongolian clans have become sedentary, but no less cordial and proud of their connection to the Great Genghis Khan. With so much happening in one area, The Hutong research team barely knew where to begin, but luckily they did their homework.
T.H.E. team set Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and its borderlands with Inner Mongolia in their sights for a new educational excursion and shot a perfect 10. With another successful research trip, they came back with an exciting new cycling excursion that takes you from the Muslim communities along the river valley of central Ningxia all the way to remote Mongolian outposts of the Tengger desert. Through these comparative religious and social studies experiences, students of all ages will explore a swath of geographies, landscapes, encounter the Hui people and other ethnic groups, discover their lifestyles, cuisine, and more.
