Last Year in Beijing – A Poetry Reading with Anthony Tao

Last Year in Beijing – A Poetry Reading with Anthony Tao

Date: Saturday, 12th  April
Time: 15:00-16:30
Cost: 50RMB

Anthony Tao, author of the poetry collection We Met in Beijing, will read new (and some old) poems on Saturday, April 12, at 3 p.m. at The Hutong. The works will span roughly the past year, covering topics from scooter crackdowns to shedding trees to unexpected snowfall. Ultimately, these poems are a vindication for why we stay—through all the dust, the grind, the volatility, the liver abuse, how have we found purpose and a sense of home?
Tao has been called “the poet laureate of Beijing,” and his debut collection has been praised as “[bringing] China utterly, pungently, viscerally to life” (Evan Osnos), with poems that are “enduring time capsules of the Beijing we leave behind, and the Beijing we take with us” (David Moser). Books will be available for purchase at the event.
