The Grade 11 BCISers ventured out this past September to explore their CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) requirements on a co-designed program with The Hutong in the back alleyways of Beijing’s Beixinqiao and Gulou neighborhoods.

It was a week full of activities and hands-on learning. The class engaged in creativity workshops built around the theme of storytelling and learned about the techniques and the art of interviewing and collecting oral histories. The students then had a fun time telling those stories on a Ju’er Hutong stage, around a campfire in Dongpo village outside Beijing, and at the showcase presentations back at BCIS on Friday.

The pioneers of the Hutong Heritage Helpers program and The Hutong team look forward to building upon the positives from this September week in the years to come! Click here to read more about our cultural heritage initiatives.
