It is spring again, and this past week The Hutong hosted a number of groups from Dulwich, Harrow, and The British School of Nanjing. We hosted some of our classic activities – theatrical hutong tours, interactive scavenger hunts, hands-on cooking classes and tea art activities – along with a new one: The Confucius Temple Calligraphy Challenge. To complete the challenge, students first learned about water calligraphy and classic chengyu expressions. They were then given the task to find a number of chengyus inside Confucius Temple, recording each expression and drawing it as a team using water calligraphy brushes. Finally, there was the quiz about each expression’s meaning. Hats off to all groups, who paid close attention to their surroundings, used their wits, and surprised their teachers and the Hutong crew with their great manners and exceptional performance!
