The Hutong presents a brand-new series just for our favorite ayis! Our 6-week course will have everyone baking and sautéing up delightful meals with a focus on fresh ingredients and western nutrition – all taught in Chinese! This course is ideal for ayis and those who work closely with western clients. Over the course of this series, participants will learn:
- How to use basic ingredients such as olive oil, fresh herbs, and cheese to create western-style meals
- Nutrition from a western perspective and how to incorporate fresh vegetables and whole grains into a meal
- Basic western cooking techniques
Course Details
Week 1 Basics of Western Nutrition & Ingredients: Introduction to common western ingredients including olive oil, wine vinegar, butter, sea salt, black pepper, fresh herbs, sauces and cheeses. You’ll learn the key points about nutrition from a Western perspective, and how to incorporate this into your cooking. Menu: Green Salad with Homemade Vinaigrette, Whole Wheat Croque Monsieur (hot ham & cheese sandwich), Herb-Roasted Cauliflower and Broccoli.
Week 2 Italian: Learn how to use basic Italian seasonings and techniques. such as balancing subtle Mediterranean flavors, oven cooking and pan frying. Menu: Homemade pizza, Pasta with fresh summer sauces & mushroom risotto
Week 3 Thai: Get to know Southeast Asian cuisine by using fresh herbs, zesty simple dressings, and preparing curries from scratch. Menu: Thai Green Chicken, Thai baked fish with fresh herbs, Spicy Papaya Salad
Week 4 Vietnamese: Students will learn how to concoct light but flavourful dishes with fresh herbs alongside healthy cooking styles. Menu: Chicken Pho, Beef Salad with Fresh Herbs, Summer Spring Rolls
Week 5 Indian Vegetarian: Exotic Indian recipes, with a satisfying, vegetarian spin. Menu: Vegetable Paulo (Fried Indian Rice with Vegetables), Palak Paneer and Carrot Salad
Week 6 Desserts: Learn the basics of baking such as how to follow a recipe, measure ingredients, and oven usage. Menu: Chocolate Chip Cookies, Vanilla Cupcakes & Thai sticky rice with Mango
