FOOD, FILM & FRIENDS: ECUADOR
Electric Shadows and The Hutong team up to take you on a global journey of the senses. Every month we combine world cinema with international cuisine from a chosen country, beginning with a cooking class led by one of The Hutong’s chefs and followed by a film screening from that chosen country. This month, we’ll be visiting Ecuador, with an Ecuadorian cooking class followed by a screening of the heartwarming film, Que Tan Lejos.
Ecuadorian cuisine is varied and under appreciated, with a range of delicacies arising from its three main geographic regions; the Amazon, the Sierra, and the Pacific Coast. Join Ecuadorian Chef Johanita de La Torre, whose October menu will feature three of her favorite home style Ecuadorian dishes:
Potato Tortilla with Aji
Ceviche de Camaron (Shrimp)
Pork & Beer Fritada
QUE TAN LEJOS
Dir: Tania Hermida, Ecuador, 2006, 92 mins
The plot follows an Ecuadorian student and a Spanish traveler as they unexpectedly travel together through Ecuador when a strike makes it impossible to travel by bus, “in director Tania Hermida’s understated tale of love, friendship, and the journey to gain a better understanding of who we really are.” ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
