Curtains open. Lights up. There you are, in front of an audience of people waiting on your every word. To some this is where they shine, but to others they couldn’t think of a worse situation. Come conquer your fears by exploring classic and contemporary monologues and the power of performance.

In this three part workshop series, actor, director and facilitator, Skott Taylor will introduce you to classic theatrical techniques, character development and scene study to help you master your public speaking fears. All coming together in a final performance for friends and family.

The workshop is broken into 3 separate sessions aimed at breaking down the creation and performance process. From body and vocal warm ups to the final bow, you’ll be taken step by step in a safe and encouraging environment.

Session by Session breakdown:

• Saturday, September 7th: Warming Up & Exploration – In the first session you will be introduced to body and vocal warmups which can be used before any performance followed by some basic improv to relax and bond as a group. A large part of the exploration in this workshop comes from the trust built as a group. Each participant will introduce their monologues (prior to session please choose monologue to present from a play, movie, TV show or literature) and will learn how to prepare their script for performance… In the second half of the session, participants will further explore the heart of their scripts before getting the monologues up on their feet for physical, stage blocking. This session ends with participants giving a full run through with the security of their script in hand.

• Saturday, September 14th: Building Confidence – By the time the second session begins participants will have a firm grip on the memorization of their monologues. This session is all about taking that next step and putting down their scripts. By moving past this point participants will explore the freedom and confidence of intimately knowing their speech. A final rehearsal wraps up the session.

• Saturday, September 21st: Spotlight – Session three is the result of three weeks of exploring and giving each participant the tools, skills and confidence to perform in front of an audience. After a final full dress rehearsal, family and friends are invited to join us for an evening of performances and celebration. Social rooftop celebration drinks will follow on the roof of The Hutong (weather permitting)

Workshops will run on Saturdays from 1:00pm – 5:00 pm. Coffee and tea breaks will be provided throughout.

Cost: 1200RMB (1100RMB for members), paid upfront for a maximum of 6 people. No refund is offered for missed sessions however classes can be made up at a future course, if available.
