At the foothills of the Shaoshi Mountain, under the shaded trees and amongst the ancient pagodas of Shaolin Temple, the BCIS 6th Grade class learned more than a collection of intimidating Kung Fu moves, they experienced how Shaolin pupils live their daily lives. Through their Kung Fu regimen, they learned about the wisdom of Kung Fu masters, including confidence, perseverance, and self-control. Inside the temple, through their scavenger hunt, the students discovered Shaolin’s secrets and learned about each other through team building activities and individual challenges. On their last day, the students also learned how to give back to Shaolin during a mountainside cleanup just beyond the temple complex.
Staff on the trip noticed once quiet students emerge as leaders of their small groups. They watched as their students interacted with monks and travelers from all over the country. They also observed their students, under the watchful eye of Master Xie, taking turns with Kung Fu pupils to practice martial arts, making friends in the process. Most importantly, staff and students all gained unforgettable memories while growing together as a class and learning about the place, people, and culture of Shaolin. Below are some pictures of the trip:
