The Hutong helps strengthen grassroots and international nonprofit organizations in China by connecting our partner NGOs with local community members.  We aim to host one charity-based event a month, where profits of the fundraiser are donated to one of our sponsored charities.

A China-based social enterprise dedicated to enabling the personal, social and economic empowerment of China’s migrant and rural population through participation in and leadership of inspirational arts-based projects. Hua Dan works to train migrant workers to be professional arts practitioners, project managers and branch leaders of Hua Dan, lifting them out of poverty and enabling them to participate equally in the mainstream society.

A  non-profit organization that enables Chinese people to lift themselves from poverty. Cultural Heritage Protection Center (CHP)

Logo BCHCHP is a registered Chinese NGO that works at the grass roots level to assist local communities to preserve tangible and intangible local culture through training and capacity building. Key constituencies with which CHP works include community residents and leaders, government officials, media, students, and legal experts. CHP’s core competency lies in cultural heritage law and policy.

CAI

CAI (才) means “talent.” CAI is a program funded and supported by its parent entity, the Promise Foundation, a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) public charity.  Their programs target the underserved communities of migrant laborer children in China. CAI works through arts and sports programs and character development activities, and also conduct teacher training programs in rural schools.

The Hutong also strives to be actively involved in the Beijing community. Our aim is to genuinely support what community groups do –  by hosting events, by helping to grow their membership numbers, by finding ways to promote group interaction.

Heyrobics

Heyrobics, known in Sweden as “Jympa” and in France as “La Gym Suedoise”, is a full body workout including strength, running, cardio and agility. It’s performed with music to simple movements demonstrated by an instructor, and is a fantastic way to keep fit. It’s also the biggest overall sport in Sweden, with more than 5% of the population participating every week.

Greening the Beige functions as a public platform that promotes environmental awareness through the arts. GtB promotes artists, organizations, and individuals dedicated to sustainable development in Beijing. BJ Improv

Beijing Improv is China’s oldest and largest Improvised Theater organization.  Beijing Improv’s Mainstage English Players have produced widely acclaimed monthly comedy shows – selling out the 200 seat PengHao theater for the past three years straight.  Beijing Improv’s bilingual workshops are consistently over-subscribed and their new Bilingual Performance Group is winning rave reviews. Beijing Improv’s members come from around the world and have been trained in the best improv schools from New York, Chicago, California, the UK, France, New Zealand and more.  Beijing Improv is a community NGO – 100% of all proceeds from Beijing Improv events are donated to internationally run China-based NGOs.

STC

STC was set up as a platform for promoting cycling in Beijing, in the belief that the bicycle is one of the best tools for sustainable personal mobility in dense cities.  STC is helping to ignite a “bicycling 2.0 culture” here in Beijing through our social events, website, lectures and of course our regular rides. We are also undertaking research on Beijing’s unique bicycle past with the aim of providing insight and analysis on one of the best bicycle cities the world has ever seen.

Fishbowl Events

Fishbowl started organizing Speed Dating parties in 2007 for a group of friends complaining about the Beijing singles scene in Beijing. It was a social experiment and it was a success. Fishbowl has been going strong for 4 years, and includes a bi-monthly Hook N Cook at The Hutong.
