The Hutong helps strengthen grassroots and international nonprofit organizations in China by connecting our partner NGOs with local community members.  We aim to host one charity-based event a month, where profits of the fundraiser are donated to one of our sponsored charities.

Hua Dan

A China-based social enterprise dedicated to enabling the personal, social and economic empowerment of China’s migrant and rural population through participation in and leadership of inspirational arts-based projects. Hua Dan works to train migrant workers to be professional arts practitioners, project managers and branch leaders of Hua Dan, lifting them out of poverty and enabling them to participate equally in the mainstream society.

The Library Project

This organisation donates books and libraries to under financed schools and orphanages in the developing world. We believe that education is the key motivator to breaking the cycle of poverty that exists in the developing world.  In the Winter of 2009, The Library Project completed their 100th elementary school library donation, and are projected to build 225 libraries by 2010.

Founded by renowned primatologist Jane Goodall, the Jane Goodall Institute is a global nonprofit that empowers people to make a difference for all living things. Their work builds on Dr. Goodall’s scientific work and her humanitarian vision. The main goals of the Jane Goodall Institute is to improve global understanding/treatment of great apes through research and public education, contribute to the preservation of great apes and their habitats, and create a worldwide network of young people who will learn and care for their human community, animals, and the environment.

Wokai>

A  non-profit organization that enables Chinese people to lift themselves from poverty. Wokai is Chinese for “I start,” demonstrating the commitment to helping the impoverished help themselves.  Through their website, Wokai connects contributors worldwide with entrepreneurs in rural China to help them start small businesses.

CHP is a registered Chinese NGO that works at the grass roots level to assist local communities to preserve tangible and intangible local culture through training and capacity building. Key constituencies with which CHP works include community residents and leaders, government officials, media, students, and legal experts. CHP’s core competency lies in cultural heritage law and policy.

CAI (才) means “talent.” CAI is a program funded and supported by its parent entity, the Promise Foundation, a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) public charity.  Their programs target the underserved communities of migrant laborer children in China. CAI works through arts and sports programs and character development activities, and also conduct teacher training programs in rural schools.
