Introduction to Ashtanga returns to The Hutong

By popular demand, Yonnie Fung’s Introduction to Ashtanga Course will run again at The Hutong in September and October.

Yonnie, an Australian, is Beijing’s only registered Yoga Alliance Certified 500-hour teacher. She brings expertise, experience and integrity to yoga lessons that focus on your safety and health. She trained in India with some of the world’s most accomplished ashtanga practitioners.

Ashtanga yoga strengthens you all over: core, back, arms, legs, shoulders, and back.  You’ll develop more flexibility and endurance too.  There’ll be other benefits too – like patience and body knowledge and maybe self awareness. (Of course, it helps if you stick to it!)

Ashtanga is challenging, and you can expect your muscles to be a little tired after class, but Yonnie encourages a gradual and gentle  approach and emphasises good alignment and safety.  Good yoga is not about everyone looking the same – we’re all built differently.  There’ll be plenty of options so students of different abilities can practice at a level of intensity they are comfortable with.

The course will cover the fundamentals of Ashtanga yoga: breathing, bandhas, standing, balancing and sitting poses, arm balances, inversions, and backbends.

Who can join?

Almost anyone! Whether you look like Twiggy, or you have a spare tyre hanging around the mid-riff. Young or old. Black or white or yellow.  All you need is willingness to give it a try.

Ashtanga is not suitable for anyone that is in their first trimester of pregnancy or has any new joint injuries.

Timing:

There are two options: Wednesday nights OR Sunday mornings.

Each course is taught once a week, on Wednesday OR Sunday morning. Because the maximum class size is 8 people, Yonnie will run two separate courses on Wednesday and Sunday if there is enough interest.

Class A: Wednesday nights 7-8pm

Class B: Sunday mornings 9-10am

Please register in ONE of these classes.

Classes start Sunday 25 September and Wednesday 15 September and run for 8 weeks.

The course costs 900 rmb.

Maximum class size is 8.  Minimum class size is 6.  If you’re interested, get in touch soon at yogawithyonnie@gmail.com.
